Irregularities at the base of the proximal phalanges: false indicator of early rheumatoid arthritis.

Fifty posteroanterior hand radiographs from normal adults were reviewed retrospectively to assess the incidence of cortical indistinctness at the base of the proximal phalanges in a normal population.
