Using a fast semi-analytic raytracing code, we study the variability of relativistically broadened Fe–Kα lines due to discoseismic oscillations concentrated in the innermost regions of accretion discs around black holes. The corrugation mode, or c-mode, is of particular interest as its natural frequency corresponds well to the ∼0.1–15 Hz range observed for low-frequency quasi-periodic oscillations (LFQPOs) for lower spins. Comparison of the oscillation phase dependent variability and quasi… Expand
Self-Trapping of Diskoseismic Corrugation Modes in Neutron Star Spacetimes
We examine the effects of higher-order multipole contributions of rotating neutron star (NS) spacetimes on the propagation of corrugation (c-)modes within a thin accretion disk. We find that theExpand
A quasi-periodic modulation of the iron line centroid energy in the black hole binary H1743−322
Accreting stellar-mass black holes often show a ‘Type-C’ quasi-periodic oscillation (QPO) in their X-ray flux and an iron emission line in their X-ray spectrum. The iron line is generated throughExpand
Twin peak HF QPOs as a spectral imprint of dual oscillation modes of accretion tori
Context. High frequency (millisecond) quasi-periodic oscillations (HF QPOs) are observed in the X-ray power-density spectra of several microquasars and low mass X-ray binaries. Two distinct QPOExpand
Inclination dependence of QPO phase lags in black hole X-ray binaries
Quasi-periodic oscillations (QPOs) with frequencies from ∼0.05to30 Hz are a common feature in the X-ray emission of accreting black hole binaries. As the QPOs originate from the innermost accretionExpand
Phase-resolved spectroscopy of low-frequency quasi-periodic oscillations in GRS 1915+105
X-ray radiation from black hole binary (BHB) systems regularly displays quasi-periodic oscillations (QPOs). In principle, a number of suggested physical mechanisms can reproduce their power spectralExpand
A variable corona for GRS 1915+105
Most models of the low frequency quasi periodic oscillations (QPOs) in low-mass X-ray binaries (LMXBs) explain the dynamical properties of those QPOs. On the other hand, in recent years reverberationExpand
A review of quasi-periodic oscillations from black hole X-ray binaries: Observation and theory
Abstract Black hole and neutron star X-ray binary systems routinely show quasi-periodic oscillations (QPOs) in their X-ray flux. Despite being strong, easily measurable signals, their physical originExpand

Corotational damping of discoseismic c modes in black hole accretion discs
Discoseismic c modes in accretion discs have been invoked to explain low-frequency variabilities observed in black hole X-ray binaries. These modes are trapped in the innermost region of the disc andExpand

We first briefly review how we investigate the modes of oscillation trapped within the inner region of accretion disks by the strong-field gravitational properties of a black hole (or a compact,Expand
Variable Line Profiles Due to Non-Axisymmetric Patterns in an Accretion Disc around a Rotating Black Hole
We have explored spectral line profiles due to spiral patterns in accretion discs around black holes. A parametrization was employed for the shape and emissivity of spiral waves, which can beExpand

Role of emission angular directionality in spin determination of accreting black holes with a broad iron line
Aims. The spin of an accreting black hole can be determined by spectroscopy of the emission and absorption features produced in the inner regions of an accretion disc. In this work, we discuss theExpand
