The article examines the Irish migration to the port of Quebec and Irish settlement in Quebec City in the first half of the nineteenth century. Based on the annual reports and correspondence of the chief emigration agents posted at Quebec (1831–54) and on the manuscript censuses of Quebec City (1842, 1852, 1861), it addresses the following issues with respect to Irish emigration to Quebec: source regions in Ireland, religious affiliations, and the social status of the immigrants.
