When CCRF-CEM cells were incubated with 5-40 microM CdCl(2,) apoptosis was observed most clearly at 10 microM. Prior to the development of apoptosis, mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPKs), i.e. extracellular signal-regulated protein kinase (ERK), c-Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK), and p38 MAPK, were activated with different sensitivity to CdCl(2) exposure.
