Heterologous crossed immunoelectrophoresis (CIE) analysis demonstrated that Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus body and D. farinae body extracts contained up to 21 cross-reacting antigens (Ags). Incubation of CIE gels with two mite-sensitive individual sera and a serum pool of mite-sensitive patients indicated that up to nine cross-reacting Ags bound mite-specific IgE on crossed radioimmunoelectrophoresis and were common allergens.
