The transition of Fe2+ to Fe3+ in Fricke solution after irradiation results in a change of NMR proton relaxation times in agarose gels which can be used for the dosimetry of ionizing radiation. The main advantage of this system is the possibility of observing dose distributions in 3 dimensions in a medium which is supposed to be tissue equivalent.
