It has been nearly a quarter of a century since I reviewed introgression in this journal (Heiser, 1949a). Since that time hybridization and introgression have been the subjects of many reviews (Anderson, 1949, 1953; Baker, 1951; Grant, 1971; Mayr, 1963; Stebbins, 1950, 1959, 1969), so that it may well be asked if another one is needed.
