These lectures present an introduction to AdS-CFT, and are intended both for begining and more advanced graduate students, which are familiar with quantum field theory and have a working knowledge of their basic methods. Familiarity with supersymmetry, general relativity and string theory is helpful, but not necessary, as the course intends to be as self-contained as possible. I will introduce the needed elements of field and gauge theory, general relativity, supersymmetry, supergravity…

Duality symmetries in string-inspired supergravity: T-dualities and the gauge/gravity correspondence

Motivated by the AdS/CFT correspondence, new supersymmetric solutions to Type IIB and Type IIA supergravity are presented. These solutions contain AdS5 or AdS4 factors and are generated using

Topics in Quantum Field Theory in Curved Spacetime: Unruh Effect, Hawking Radiation, and AdS/CFT

We study the framework of quantum field theory in curved spaces. The Unruh effect and Hawking radiation are described for both Minkowski and anti-de Sitter spaces, and greybody factors are

The AdS/CFT correspondence and applications to QCD

In this dissertation, an introduction into the the subject of the AdS/CFT correspondence is presented. As a concrete example, we explore Maldacena’s original conjecture of a duality between N = 4

Perturbative Methods for Superconformal Quantum Field Theories in String - Gauge Theory Dualities

This review covers a number of applications of conformal field theory meth- ods for perturbative calculations in N = 4 super Yang-Mills and ABJM theory. After motivating the role of superconformal

MSc Particles, Strings & Cosmology: Dissertation Higher-Spin Gauge Theories, Vasiliev Theory and Holography

Higher-spin gauge theories are a rich and fascinating topic and in particular the question of interactions represents a severe technical challenge in light of the many deep no-go results. We present

TASI lectures on AdS/CFT

We introduce the AdS/CFT correspondence as a natural extension of QFT in a fixed AdS background. We start by reviewing some general concepts of CFT, including the embedding space formalism. We then

Quantum Algebras and Integrable Boundaries in AdS/CFT

This thesis studies quantum integrable structures such as Yangians and quantum affine algebras that arise in and are inspired by the AdS/CFT duality, with a primary emphasis on the exploration of

N-Dimensional Ads Related Spacetime and Its Transformation

Recently, anti-de Sitter spaces are used in promising theories of quantum gravity like the anti-de Sitter/conformal field theory correspondence. The latter provides an approach to string theorie,

Black hole formation, holographic thermalization and the AdS/CFT correspondence

The AdS/CFT correspondence is one of the most important discoveries in theoretical physics in recent years. It states that certain quantum mechanical theories can actually be described by classical

An Ads Related Spacetime with Time Dependent Scale Factor

McVittie's model [10], which interpolates between a Schwarzschild Black Hole and an expanding global (FLRW) spacetime, can be constructed by a simple coordinate replacement in Schwarzschild's

Supersymmetric gauge theories and the AdS / CFT correspondence

In these lecture notes we first assemble the basic ingredients of supersymmetric gauge theories (particularly N=4 super-Yang-Mills theory), supergravity, and superstring theory. Brane solutions are

Anti-de Sitter space and holography

Recently, it has been proposed by Maldacena that large $N$ limits of certain conformal field theories in $d$ dimensions can be described in terms of supergravity (and string theory) on the product of

It is argued that semiclassical string energies yield information on the quantum spectrum of the string in the limit of large angular momenta on the S5, leading to an asymptotic all-loop conjecture for the gauge theory Bethe equations.

String theory and M-theory

String theory is one of the most exciting and challenging areas of modern theoretical physics. This book guides the reader from the basics of string theory to very recent developments at the frontier

Lectures on the plane‐wave string/gauge theory duality

These lectures give an introduction to the novel duality relating type IIB string theory in a maximally supersymmetric plane‐wave background to 𝒩 = 4, d = 4, U(N) super Yang‐Mills theory in a

The Large N Limit of ${\cal N} =2,1 $ Field Theories from Threebranes in F-theory

We consider field theories arising from a large number of D3-branes near singularities in F-theory. We study the theories at various conformal points, and compute, using their conjectured string
