Problems involving boundary conditions on corrugated surfaces are relevant to understand nature, since, at some scale, surfaces manifest corrugations that have to be taken into account. In introductory level electromagnetism courses, a very common and fundamental exercise is to solve Poisson’s equation for a point charge in the presence of an infinity perfectly conducting planar surface, which is usually done by image method. Clinton, Esrick and Sacks [Phys. Rev. B 31, 7540 (1985)] added…

We consider a planar two-dimensional system between two media with different dielectric constants and in the presence of a third dielectric medium separated by a nonplanar interface. Extending a…

In the literature, it has been shown that between a neutral polarizable particle and a conducting plane surface arises an attractive dispersive force. A change on this geometry, for instance by the…

We consider a single slight protuberance in a perfectly conducting plane, and investigate the van der Waals (vdW) interaction between this surface and a neutral polarizable particle. When the…

In a recent paper, it was shown that, under the action of the lateral van der Waals (vdW) force due to a perfectly conducting corrugated surface, a neutral anisotropic polarizable particle in vacuum…

We study the van der Waals (vdW) interaction between a polarizable particle and a grounded conducting corrugated surface. For sinusoidal corrugations, one knows that, under the action of the lateral…

Image potential states (IPS's) on periodically stepped metal surfaces have been calculated within an impenetrable surface model. Band splittings and band anticrossings are predicted for IPS's caused…

Beginning with a microscopically obtained density profile near the free surface of liquid helium an analysis of the electronic surface states, both inside and outside, is carried out. For the…
