Abstract As a model for transport in the bloodstream of exogenous triacylglycerols, we have studied the intravascular metabolism of Intralipid, an artificial, cholesterol- and protein-free ‘chylomicron’. Two patients with Crohn's disease and one patient with intermittent abdominal pain received total parenteral nutrition including between 50 and 100 g of Intralipid per day.
