To study the effects of recombinant interferon-gamma (IFN-gamma) on pulmonary defenses in vivo, we measured Ia antigen expression by alveolar macrophages and whole-lung clearance of inhaled Legionella pneumophila in normal and corticosteroid-treated rats.
