Although the presence of subepithelial intestinal fibroblasts has been well recognized, the effects of fibroblasts on intestinal epithelial cell (IEC) growth are incompletely understood. In vitro studies were undertaken to evaluate the effects of fibroblasts on the proliferation of model IEC lines.
