Two new interstitial harpacticoids were recently collected from groundwater in Tuscany (Central Italy). The Parastenocarididae Parastenocaris reidae sp. nov. was collected from both phreatic and hyporheic habitats of River Serchio, Lucca province, together with specimens of Parastenocaris cf. glacialis Noodt. We describe and discuss the affinities of the former species, and give a preliminary description of the latter. Nitocrella ensifera sp. nov. was collected from the phreatic habitat of… Expand
A new species of Parastenocaris from Mindoro Island, Philippines: Parastenocaris distincta sp. nov. (Crustacea: Copepoda: Harpacticoida: Parastenocarididae)
TLDR
The medial ornamentation of P1 basis, the morphology of male P3 and the number and distribution of the integumental pores in the new species differ from those previously reported in other species of Parastenocaris. Expand
TWO NEW SPECIES OF PARASTENOCARIS (COPEPODA, HARPACTICOIDA, PARASTENOCARIDIDAE) FROM GROUNDWATER OF SARDINIA AND SICILY
Two species of harpacticoid copepods, Parastenocaris altitudinis sp. nov. and Parastenocaris luciae sp. nov., are described herein and their taxonomic position within the genus Parastenocaris isExpand
Freshwater cyclopoids and harpacticoids (Crustacea: Copepoda) from the Gnangara Mound region of Western Australia
TLDR
The copepod fauna recorded in the caves and springs of the Gnangara Mound region are comparable, with respect to species richness, endemicity and the varying degrees of dependency on ground water, to those reported from similar habitats in South Australia and Western Australia. Expand
A new species of Parastenocaris from Korea, with a redescription of the closely related P. biwae from Japan (Copepoda: Harpacticoida: Parastenocarididae)
TLDR
It is speculated that the present distribution of the brevipes group may be a combination of ancient vicariance and subsequent dispersal, with a possible origin in the Gondwanaland, in the rift valley between Australia and India. Expand
Redefinition of the parastenocaridid genus Proserpinicaris (Copepoda: Harpacticoida), with description of three new species from Korea
TLDR
The genus Proserpinicaris Jakobi, 1972, as redefined here, is Palaearctic in distribution, with the centre of diversity in southern Europe, and 20 valid members, all of which share a large hyaline spiniform structure on the male fourth leg basis as a synapomorphy. Expand
First record of the genus Nitocrella Chappuis, 1923 (Copepoda, Harpacticoida, Ameiridae) from India, with a new phreatic species
TLDR
The new species is described from phreatic waters in Andhra Pradesh state located in southeastern peninsular India and shows an allegedly close relationship with the Iranian N. petkovskii Pesce, 1980. Expand
Molecular and morphological evidence for short range endemism in the Kinnecaris solitaria complex (Copepoda: Parastenocarididae), with descriptions of seven new species
TLDR
Detailed morphological and molecular observations indicate that the diversity of the harpacticoid genus Kinnecaris is not dealing with one widely distributed and variable species in the Yilgarn region, but rather with a complex of short range endemics. Expand
First Record of Parastenocarididae from Thailand and Description of a New Genus (Copepoda: Harpacticoida)
TLDR
The apomorphic characters of Asiacaris are represented by the sexual dimorphism of P2 (stronger in male than in female), the fusion of the P5 to the intercoxal sclerite and to the somite and, mostly, by the overall transformation of P4 in the male, which is the longest and strongest leg. Expand
