We report on strong dipole transitions to 3d orbitals of neighboring Co atoms in the Co 1s x-ray absorption pre-edge. They are revealed by applying high-resolution resonant x-ray emission spectroscopy (RXES) to compounds containing CoO6 clusters. When contrasted to quadrupole local 1s3d excitations, these non-local 1s3d transitions are identified by their energy dispersion and angular dependence, their sensitivity to second-shell effects (i.e. the connection mode of the CoO6 octahedra and the…

Nonlocal Interactions in the Double Perovskite Sr2FeMoO6 from Core-Level X-ray Spectroscopy

: The valence electronic structure of the half-metallic double perovskite Sr 2 FeMoO 6 forms from a strongly hybridized band in the spin-down channel of Fe 3d and Mo 4d states that provides metallic

1s3p Resonant Inelastic X-ray Scattering of Cobalt Oxides and Sulfides

We are developing 1s3p resonant inelastic X-ray scattering (RIXS) as a versatile spectroscopic tool to probe active systems under working conditions. In order to establish detailed reference

Metal-ligand covalency of iron complexes from high-resolution resonant inelastic X-ray scattering.

The Kα RIXS approach can be used as a stand-alone method, in combination with L-edge XAS for strongly covalent systems that are difficult to probe by UV/vis spectroscopy, or as an extension to conventional absorption spectroscope for a wide range of transition metal enzymes and catalysts.

1s2p RIXS Calculations for 3d Transition Metal Ions in Octahedral Symmetry

We present a series of 1s2p resonant inelastic X-ray scattering (RIXS) calculations for 3d transition metal ions in octahedral symmetry covering each ground state between 3d0 and 3d9. The

X-ray Absorption Spectroscopy Study of La$_{1-y}$Sr$_{y}$Co$_{1-x}$Nb$_x$O$_3$

We use x-ray absorption spectroscopy to investigate the local structure and electronic properties of bulk La1−ySryCo1−xNbxO3 (y = 2x as LSCNO and y = 0 as LCNO) samples. The x-ray absorption

X-ray absorption near-edge structure (XANES) spectroscopy

The previous Reviews in Mineralogy volume on spectroscopic methods (Vol. 18 Spectroscopic Methods in Mineralogy and Geology , Frank C. Hawthorne, ed. 1988), contained a single chapter on X-ray

A Highly Reactive CoIII,IV2(μ-O)2 Diamond Core Complex that Cleaves C-H Bonds.

3 is a highly reactive oxidant for sp3 C-H bonds, and an oxygenation reagent that has the highest rate constant for oxidizing 9,10-dihydroanthracene (DHA) compared to diamond core complexes of other first-row transition metals including Mn, Fe and Cu reported previously.

A loss for photoemission is a gain for Auger: Direct experimental evidence of crystal-field splitting and charge transfer in photoelectron spectroscopy

We find a new 5 eV satellite in the Ti 1s photoelectron spectrum of the transition-metal oxide SrTiO$_3$. This satellite appears in addition to the well-studied 13 eV structure that is typically

X-ray absorption near-edge structure micro-spectroscopy study of vanadium speciation in Phycomyces blakesleeanus mycelium

Vanadium speciation in the fungus Phycomyces blakesleeanus was examined by X-ray absorption near-edge structure (XANES) spectroscopy, enabling assessment of oxidation states and related molecular
