The relationship in the human substantia nigra of peptidergic fibers with intrinsic dopaminergic neurons was studied in adjacent coronal sections of the mesencephalon immunohistochemically stained for enkephalin (ENK), substance P (SP), and tyrosine (TH) hydroxylase immunoreactivity.
