This investigation re-examines theoretical aspects of the allowance for effects of thermodynamic non-ideality on the sedimentation equilibrium distribution for a single macromolecular solute, and thereby resolves the question of the constraints that pertain to the definition of the activity coefficient term in the basic sedimentation equilibrium expression.
