The interplay of bond and charge correlations is studied in a one-dimensional model with both Holstein and Su-Schrieffer-Heeger (SSH) couplings to quantum phonons. The problem is solved exactly by quantum Monte Carlo simulations. If one of the couplings dominates, the ground state is a Peierls insulator with long-range bond or charge order. At weak coupling, the results suggest a spin-gapped and repulsive metallic phase arising from the competing order parameters and lattice fluctuations. Such…

Superconductivity due to cooperation of electron-electron and electron-phonon interactions at quarter filling
We present the results of Quantum Monte Carlo calculations for a two dimensional frustrated Hubbard model coupled to bond phonons. The model is known to have a d-wave superconducting ground state in
Cooperative enhancement of superconducting correlations by electron-electron and electron-phonon interactions in the quarter-filled band

Two-dimensional Holstein-Hubbard model: Critical temperature, Ising universality, and bipolaron liquid
Fundamental open questions about the two-dimensional Holstein model of electrons coupled to quantum phonons are addressed by continuous-time quantum Monte Carlo simulations. The critical temperature
Quantum Monte Carlo study of lattice polarons in the two-dimensional three-orbital Su–Schrieffer–Heeger model
The electron–lattice interaction gives rise to a rich set of phenomena in quantum materials. Microscopically, this interaction often arises from the modulation of orbital overlaps; however, many
Peierls bipolarons and localization in solid-state and molecular systems
In this thesis, I investigate the behavior of particles dressed by quantum field excitations and random interactions. First I consider two-carrier states in the Peierls model describing the
Numerical study of the electron-phonon interaction in multiorbital materials
This thesis examines the electron-phonon (e-ph) interaction in multiorbital correlated systems using various numerical techniques, including determinant quantum Monte Carlo and dynamical mean field
Polaron transformations in the realistic model of the strongly correlated electron system
Electron-phonon coupling, diagonal in a real space formulation, leads to a polaron paradigm of smoothly varying properties. However, fundamental changes, namely the singular behavior of polarons,
Light Bipolarons Stabilized by Peierls Electron-Phonon Coupling.
Using numerical simulations and analytical arguments, it is shown that strongly bound yet very light bipolarons appear for strong Peierls coupling, and these properties result from the specific form of the phonon-mediated interaction, which is of "pair hopping" instead of regular density-density type.
Density waves in strongly correlated quantum chains
Abstract We review exact numerical results for one-dimensional quantum systems with half-filled bands. The topics covered include Peierls transitions in Holstein, Fröhlich, Su-Schrieffer-Heeger, and
Quantum dynamics of the small-polaron formation in a superconducting analog simulator
We propose a scheme for investigating the nonequilibrium aspects of small-polaron physics using an array of superconducting qubits and microwave resonators. This system, which can be realized with

Scaling and Renormalization in Statistical Physics
This text provides a thoroughly modern graduate-level introduction to the theory of critical behaviour. Beginning with a brief review of phase transitions in simple systems and of mean field theory,
