Interplay of Logical and Physical Architecture in Distributed System Design

title={Interplay of Logical and Physical Architecture in Distributed System Design},

Patterns of avoidance, adjacency, and association in complex systems design emerge from the system's underlying logical architecture (functional relationships among components) and physical architecture (component physical properties and spatial location). Understanding the physical--logical architecture interplay that gives rise to patterns of arrangement requires a quantitative approach that bridges both descriptions. Here, we show that statistical physics reveals patterns of avoidance…

Topological Design of Heterogeneous Self-Assembly
Controlling the topology of structures self-assembled from a set of heterogeneous building blocks is highly desirable for many applications, but is poorly understood theoretically. Here we show that

Eating the IT Elephant: Moving from Greenfield Development to Brownfield
A new approach to the development of future systems is described: a structured approach that recognizes the challenges of Brownfield development, is based on engineering principles, and is supported by appropriate tooling.
Investigating Emergent Design Failures Using a Knowledge-Action-Decision Framework
This document summarizes current capabilities, research and operational priorities, and plans for further studies that were established at the 2015 USGS workshop on quantitative hazard assessments of earthquake-triggered landsliding and liquefaction in the Czech Republic.
The novel JEV RT-NASBA assay could be used as an efficient molecular biology tool to diagnose JEV, which would facilitate the surveillance of reproductive failure disease in swine and would be beneficial for public health security.
