Six hundred thirty-four children with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) were randomized to receive sanctuary therapy consisting of either cranial irradiation (CRT) plus intrathecal (IT) methotrexate (MTX) or three courses of intermediate-dose methotrexate (IDM) plus intrathecal methotrexate.
