OBJECTIVE Nitric oxide released by a calcium dependent constitutive NO synthase in endocardial endothelial cells exerts characteristic effects on myocardial contraction. Interleukin 1 beta (IL-1) induces the expression of a different calcium independent NO synthase in several tissues.
