As early as 1943, the senior author reported on a hybrid between Paraixeris denticulata and Lactuca squarrosa , in which a quite un precedented nature in the chromosome behavior of the hybrid was emphasized. The chromosome number of the root-tip cells took several different values, the most frequent number being 12, two less than the number predicted from those of the parents (n=5 and n=9) . The meiotic behavior found in a branch with 12 chromosomes was observed. Regular six-six separation of…

Chromosome-mosaics Observed in a Variety of Wheat, “Shirahada”

An upset in mitosis which was induced by gene-controlled spindle abnormalities just before meiosis seems to be the probable cause of the origin of these hypo- and hyper-cells.

Polyploid Mitoses, Extranuclear Bodies, and Mitotic Aberrations in Seedlings of Lilium Maximowiczii Regel

Spontaneous Chromosome Aberrations in Tradescantia.

In Tradescantia, a number of plants have shown a comparatively high frequency of spontaneous chromosome alterations, and the types of alterations found in the microspore chromosomes indicate their time of origin in the nuclear cycle.

Spontaneous Chromosome Aberrations in Allium.

It has been suggested by STUBBE (193513) that possibly the spontaneous chromosome mutation rate in plants is somewhat higher than has been found for certain animals, however, the spontaneous chromosomes alteration rate has been investigated in only a few organisms.
