Effective information disclosure in the context of databases with a large conceptual schema is known to be a non-trivial problem. In particular the formulation of ad-hoc queries is a major problem in such contexts. Existing approaches for tackling this problem include graphical query interfaces, query by navigation, and query by construction. In this article we propose the point to point query mechanism that can be combined with the existing mechanism into an unprecedented computer supported…

Interactive Query Formulation using Spider Queries

The spider query mechanism is proposed as a final corner stone for an easy to use computer supported query formulation mechanism for InfoAssisant and a brief discussion on the integration of the spider quer mechanism with the existing query by navigation, query by construction, and point to point query mechanisms.

Interactive Query Formulation using Query By Navigation

This report proposes an adoption of the query by navigation mechanism that is especially geared towards the InfoAssistant product, and its approach to the formulations of queries is proposed.

An Overview of Computer Supported Query Formulation

A computer supported mechanism that allows for an easy and intuitive formulation of queries in a language that is as close to the user’s perception of the universe of discourse as possible is envisioned.

ConQuer-92 - The revised report on the conceptual query language LISA-D

The conceptual query language ConQuer-92 is introduced and serves as the backbone of InfoAssistant’s query facilities and can be used for the specification of derivation rules and textual constraints in InfoModeler.

An Information System organized as Stratied Hypermedia

It is shown how query formulation in a traditional information system can be regarded as a stratified hypermedia featuring two levels of abstraction, including the structure of the stored information.

This paper shows how aboutness is related to probability of satisfaction and shows that about is, in fact, not the central concept in a theory of document retrieval.

FORMAL DEFINITION OF A CONCEPTUAL LANGUAGE FOR THE DESCRIPTION AND MANIPULATION OF INFORMATION MODELS

A language for conceptual data modelling techniques, which is a generalisation of object-role models (such as ER or NIAM), is defined, in which not only constraints, but also queries and updates can be expressed on a conceptual level.

Supporting Information Disclosure in an Evolving Environment

Even if high-level query languages are used, query formulation may cause problems in case of large and complex application domains, and the history of the application domain should be recorded, and be retrievable.

Conceptual Schema and Relational Database Design

Conceptual schema and relational database design will lead you to love reading starting from now, because book is the window to open the new world.

Stratified Hypermedia Structures for Information Disclosure

The overall architecture of hypertext (hypermedia) systems, including the fundamentals of the user interface, are described, and a characterisation calculus is presented for the characterisation of structured elements.

Towards an information logic

This paper argues that much of the research work in the past has been steps in the direction of a logic for IR, and presents a picture of IR, describing bits of a puzzle which may fit together to point to a new framework within which a computational model or logic could be described.

Using Visual ER Query Systems in Real World Applications

Experiences from using a visual ER-based query system within large organisations using Hybris, a system used by end-users for retrieving information from relational databases, are presented.

A Conceptual Language for the Description and Manipulation of Complex Information Models

An informal introduction to such a language (LISA-D) for the data modelling technique (PSM), is presented, which is a generalisation of object-role models (such as ER, NIAM and FORM).
