The chimaeric bcr/abl oncogene is detected in virtually all cases of chronic myelogenous leukaemia (CML). It encodes a constitutively active tyrosine kinase of 210kDalton, p210bcr/abl, which stimulates a variety of cytosolic signalling intermediates.
