the effects of the attractive atom-atom interaction on several thermodynamic properties and on the momentum and density distributions. The dependence of the chemical potential, the specific heat and the density and momentum distributions on the number of particles in the trap is obtained. We also calculate the energy of the gas. Comparison is made with results of a semiclassical calculation and with the properties of a non-interacting gas. We find that the effect of the interactions is rather…

THERMODYNAMIC PROPERTIES OF AN ELECTRON GAS SYSTEM TRAPPED WITHIN VARIOUS SHAPES OF POTENTIALS

The Thomas–Fermi (TF) equation is solved numerically for an electron gas system that interacts via the Coulomb potential. An emphasis is placed on how certain physical properties, such as the

Two-component Fermi Gas in a Harmonic Trap

We consider a mixture of two-component Fermi gases at low temperature. The density profile of this degenerate Fermi gas is calculated under the semiclassical approximation. The results show that the

STATISTICAL PROPERTIES OF A TRAPPED RELATIVISTIC FERMI GAS WITH PAIR PRODUCTION

Statistical properties of an ideal gas of relativistic fermions trapped in a D-dimensional power-law potential are studied, in which the effect of particle–antiparticle pair production is taken into

The degenerate Fermi gas with density-dependent interactions in the large-N limit under the K-harmonic approximation

We present a simple implementation of a density-dependent, zero-range interaction in a degenerate Fermi gas using hyperspherical coordinates in the large particle number limit. The method produces a

Scattering resonances in a degenerate Fermi gas

We consider elastic single-particle scattering from a one-dimensional trapped two-component superfluid Fermi gas when the incoming projectile particle is identical to one of the confined species. Our

Collisional Damping of the Collective Oscillations of a Trapped Fermi Gas

We consider a Fermi gas confined by a harmonic trapping potential and we highlight the role of the Fermi–Dirac statistics by studying frequency and damping of collective oscillations of quadrupole

Simple variational approach for an interacting Fermi trapped gas (6 pages)

Quantum states of a two-component Fermi trapped gas are described by introducing an effective trap frequency, determined via variational techniques. Closed expressions for the contribution of a

The Influence of Confining Parameters on the Ground State Properties of Interacting Electrons in a Two-dimensional Quantum Dot with Gaussian Potential

In this work, the ground-state properties of an interacting electron gas confined in a twodimensional quantum dot system with the Gaussian potential v(r) = V0(1 − exp(−r2/p)), where V0 and p are

Thermodynamics of multi-component Fermi vapours

We study the thermodynamical properties of Fermi vapours confined in a harmonic external potential. In the case of the ideal Fermi gas, we compare exact density profiles with their semiclassical
