Abiotic stresses simultaneously trigger an increase in the level of the plant hormone abscisic acid (ABA) and in the concentration of cytosolic calcium. Subsequent signaling cascades convey stomata regulation and transcriptional responses. Increasing evidence points to direct interrelations of both signaling systems on multiple levels of information processing.
