Alkaline phosphatase has been solubilized from porcine intestinal mucosa by two different methods: treatment of the mucosa by Emulphogen BC 720 and papain hydrolysis of enterocyte brush border membrane vesicles. Two differnt enzyme forms have been obtained by these methods. The two enzyme forms ('detergent form' and 'papain form') have been purified to homogeneity by similar techniques and exhibit closely related molecular characteristics.
