The development of a suitable material platform for photonic integrated circuits (PICs) could have a large impact on future technologies. Diamond is a particularly attractive material for PICs. In this work, components for future quantum optical circuits are developed. This includes the first diamond optomechanical elements and the first integrated single-photon detectors on diamond. Moreover, a novel scalable method for PIC fabrication from single crystal diamond is presented.Β

Waveguide-integrated single- and multi-photon detection at telecom wavelengths using superconducting nanowires

We investigate single- and multi-photon detection regimes of superconducting nanowire detectors embedded in silicon nitride nanophotonic circuits. At near-infrared wavelengths, simultaneous detection…

Characterization of nanocrystalline diamond films by core‐level photoabsorption

Core‐level photoabsorption has been used to determine the sp2 and sp3 bonding content of nanocrystalline diamond thin films grown using C60 or CH4 precursors. The C(1s) absorption spectra show clear…

Investigating the detection regimes of a superconducting single-photon detector

The detection regimes of a superconducting single-photon detector have been investigated. A technique is proposed for determining the regions in which β€œpure regimes” predominate. Based on…

A cascade switching superconducting single photon detector

We have realized superconducting single photon detectors with reduced inductance and increased signal pulse amplitude. The detectors are based on a parallel connection of ultrathin NbN nanowires with…

Evidence for trans-polyacetylene in nanocrystalline diamond films from H–D isotropic substitution experiments

Raman spectra of nanocrystalline diamond (NCD) films show a peak around 1140 cmβˆ’1 that is usually considered to be a fingerprint of a NCD phase in the sample. From recent studies, it was suggested…

Jitter analysis of a superconducting nanowire single photon detector

Jitter is one of the key parameters for a superconducting nanowire single photon detector (SNSPD). Using an optimized time-correlated single photon counting system for jitter measurement, we…
