Expand
Overanticoagulation associated with combined use of antibacterial drugs and acenocoumarol or phenprocoumon anticoagulants.
awareness of these drug interactions and more frequent monitoring of INR values during the initial stages of antibacterial drug therapy are warranted to minimize the risk of bleeding complications. Expand
The production of menaquinones (vitamin K2) by intestinal bacteria and their role in maintaining coagulation homeostasis.
The preponderance of the evidence suggests that bacterially synthesized menaquinones, particularly in the ileum can and do play a significant role in contributing to vitamin K requirements in humans to prevent clinically significant coagulopathy, especially during periods of episodic dietary lack of the vitamin. Risk of major bleeding during concomitant use of antibiotic drugs and coumarin anticoagulants
Based on relative risks and incidence of use, amoxicillin (alone or with clavulanic acid) and doxycycline are the main antibiotic drugs associated with major bleeding when used in combination with coumarin. Expand

The vitamin K-antagonist drugs were reviewed in the Journal in the early 1970s and their safety has been improved for a number of indications without compromising efficacy, through the use of a lower degree of anticoagulation than formerly in North America. Expand
Risk Factors for Complications of Chronic Anticoagulation: A Multicenter Study
The incidence of bleeding and thromboembolic complications and related risk factors from a retrospective study of 980 patients followed in five anticoagulation clinics through 1990 are described. Expand
