OBJECTIVE Insulin resistance (IR) and the metabolic syndrome (MS) are associated with type 2 diabetes and adverse cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk factor profiles. Whether IR and MS predict CVD independently of diabetes and other CVD risk factors is not known.
