Lipoprotein synthesis and secretion were examined in primary cultures of rat hepatocytes cultured on collagen-coated plates and incubated with pharmacologic and physiologic concentrations of insulin. Media insulin concentration declined rapidly over the course of incubation indicating that hepatocytes rapidly degrade insulin.
