An interesting insertion result about the existence of “intermediate” set-valued mappings between pairs of given set-valued mappings was obtained by Nepomnyashchii. His construction was for a paracompact domain, and he remarked that his result is similar to Dowker’s insertion theorem and may represent a generalisation of this theorem. In the present paper, we characterise the τ -paracompact normal spaces by this insertion property and in the special case of τ = ω, i.e. for countably paracompact… Expand

Generic extensions of finite-valued u.s.c. selections
Abstract As a rule, most of the classical Michael-type selection theorems are analogues and, in some respects, generalizations of ordinary extension theorems. In this paper we show that the existenceExpand
Continuous Selections for Continuous Set-Valued Mappings and Finite-Dimensional Sets
The paper is devoted to selection theorems for ‘continuous’ set-valued mappings which are not necessarily convex-valued on finite-dimensional subsets of the domain. As a result, we get naturalExpand
Paracompactness and product spaces
A topological space is called paracompact (see [2 J) if (i) it is a Hausdorff space (satisfying the T2 axiom of [l]), and (ii) every open covering of it can be refined by one which is "locallyExpand
Weak factorizations of continuous set-valued mappings☆
Abstract The paper is devoted to a general factorization theorem for “continuous” set-valued mappings defined on arbitrary topological spaces. This result fits naturally into the selection theoryExpand
Hyperspaces of a continuum
Introduction. Among the topological invariants of a space X certain spaces have frequently been found valuable. The space of all continuous functions on X and the space of mappings of X into a circleExpand
Extending paired multifunctions
Abstract As a rule, the classical Michael-type selection theorems for the existence of single-valued selections are analogues and, in certain respects, generalisations of ordinary extension theorems.Expand
Characterizations of paracompact-like properties by means of set-valued semi-continuous selections
We give a characterization of countably paracompact and collectionwise normal spaces by means of set-valued semi-continuous selections. This provides a positive answer to a problem of V. Gutev.
Factorising usco mappings
Abstract We deal with factorisations through metrizable spaces of compact-valued u.s.c. mappings. In case the domain has some higher separation axioms, we found some natural relationship with theExpand
A theorem of Nepomnyashchii on continuous subset-selections
Abstract The principal purpose of this paper is to give new proofs of two theorems of G.M. Nepomnyashchii on continuous subset-selections. These proofs depend primarily on an ordinary selectionExpand
