Innovative use of Remote Sensing Images for Pro Poor Land Management

Abstract

According to Homeless International (2005), there are about 900 million people who live in slums worldwide, and among them are 570 millions that live in the Asia-Pacific region. They do not have safe and secure housing. They are mostly evicted from their lands, and compelled to live in healthand lifethreatening environments. Millions of people live on marginal land, vulnerable to flooding, landslides and other environmental hazards. For this purpose UN-HABITAT (2004) has launched pro poor land management concept with flexible approach depending on local society and circumstances.
