The conversion of normal brain aging to Alzheimer’s disease (AD) via a transition state is a continuous and chronic process caused primarily by accumulation of amyloid peptide (A ) in the brain. A is constantly produced from its precursor and immediately catabolized under normal conditions, whereas dysmetabolism of A seems to lead to pathological deposition.
