A general-purpose and automatic (or, at least, easy-to-use) system (called REFER) to create 3D geometrical models from 2D sketches, through a geometrical reconstruction process, is our present objective. In this paper, some key aspects of the heuristic strategies proposed by the authors to generate initial “tentative” models to avoid trivial minimums, and convey the optimization processes towards the psychologically plausible solution, are discussed.
