Inhomogeneity generated waves, discovered more than a decade ago, play an important role in processes like energy transfer, turbulence generation, heating, etc. To understand the nature of these waves we developed the formalism that looks for the short-term changes in the initial waveform due to the linear interaction of the initial disturbance and inhomogeneities in the background. Some aspects of inhomogeneity generated waves in the pressure balanced structures have already been studied in…

Alfvén waves in shear flows: Driven wave formalism

Abstract The driven wave formalism, as it was later applied to the solar coronal plasma processes, was first developed in our earlier work (Kaghashvili, E. Kh. 2007 Alfvén wave-driven compressional

Alfvén wave driven compressional fluctuations in shear flows

The nature of driven linear compressible fluctuations is studied when there is an Alfven wave propagating in the medium characterized by an inhomogeneous velocity field. This Brief Communication is

Propagation of Alfvén waves in shear flows: perturbation method for driven fluctuations

The nature of driven longitudinal velocity fluctuations and density fluctuations is studied when there is an Alfven wave propagating in the medium characterized by an inhomogeneous velocity. In this

Driven wave generated electric field in the solar corona

[1] We investigate the evolution of waves driven by the linearly polarized Alfven wave in the magnetic field-aligned cross-field shear flow. The generated electric field is derived in ideal MHD using

Inhomogeneity Generated Waves: Harbingers for Turbulence Generation

The Navier-Stokes equations describe fluid flow in many everyday life situations. Newton's second law of motion describes changes in the object's speed when a force applied. The Navier-Stokes

VELOCITY-SHEAR-INDUCED MODE COUPLING IN THE SOLAR ATMOSPHERE AND SOLAR WIND: IMPLICATIONS FOR PLASMA HEATING AND MHD TURBULENCE

We analytically consider how velocity shear in the corona and solar wind can cause an initial Alfvén wave to drive up other propagating signals. The process is similar to the familiar coupling into

Propagation of Alfvén waves in shear flows: Nature of driven longitudinal velocity and density fluctuations

DRIVEN WAVES AS A DIAGNOSTICS TOOL IN THE SOLAR CORONA

Detecting the signature of Alfvén waves in the solar atmosphere remains an observational challenge. At the same time, it could also be an important key to gaining critical understanding of the solar
