Antioxidant extracts from 5 potato lines were evaluated for antioxidant activity, total phenolics, chlorogenic acid, anthocyanin content, and in vitro anticancer capacity. Analysis showed that Mexican wild species S. pinnatisectum had the highest antioxidant activity, total phenolic, and chlorogenic acid content. The proliferation of colon cancer and liver cancer cells was significantly inhibited by potato antioxidant extracts. The highest antiproliferative activity was observed in extracts of… Expand
Chemical characterization of polyphenol extracts from Andean and industrial Solanum tuberosum tubers and their cytotoxic activity on human hepatocarcinoma cells
Background: Polyphenols are plant metabolites that have been largely studied for their beneficial effect on human health. Potato is one of the most important crops worldwide and is a relevant sourceExpand
Antiproliferative activity of Marrubium persicum extract in the MCF-7 human breast cancer cell line.
TLDR
Overall, M. persicum possesses potential antiproliferative and antioxidant activities on the malignant MCF-7 cell line that could be attributed to the high content of phenolics and flavonoids, and therefore warrants further exploration. Expand
The effects of blueberry anthocyanidins on antioxidant enzyme activity in human HepG2 cells
Anthocyanins are thought to have antioxidant effects in the body. The effects of two anthocyanidins, malvidin and delphinidin, on the activities of antioxidant enzymes, glutathione reductase (GR),Expand
Evaluating Antiproliferative and Antioxidant Activity of Marrubium crassidens.
TLDR
Generally, the observed antiproliferative and antioxidant properties of M. crassidens could be certified to the high amounts of phenolic and flavonoid content detected in the extract. Expand
The Impact of Coffee and Its Selected Bioactive Compounds on the Development and Progression of Colorectal Cancer In Vivo and In Vitro
TLDR
This review focuses on published epidemiological studies concerning the association of coffee consumption and the risk of development of colorectal cancer, and provides a description of selected biologically active compounds in coffee that have been investigated as potential cancer-combating compounds. Expand
Bactericidal and Cytotoxic Activities of Polyphenol Extracts from Solanum tuberosum spp. tuberosum and spp. andigena Cultivars on Escherichia coli and Human Neuroblastoma SH-SY5Y Cells In Vitro
TLDR
The results suggest that Moradita flesh could provide a desirable source of important health-promoting substances and contribute to the revalorization of potato as a functional food. Expand
Health-beneficial properties of potato and compounds of interest.
TLDR
A long-term study investigating the association between potato consumption and diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular disease and cancer while controlling for fat intake is needed. Expand
Antioxidant properties of potato tubers (Solanum tuberosum L.) as a consequence of genetic potential and growing conditions
TLDR
The results indicated that production system and location significantly influenced the antioxidant capacity measured by FRAP method, and Multidimensional comparative analysis (MCA) proved a better development of antioxidant properties of potato tubers in the organic cultivation system when compared with the integrated. Expand
Dietary Natural Products for Prevention and Treatment of Liver Cancer
TLDR
A review summarizes the potential prevention and treatment activities of dietary natural products and their major bioactive constituents on liver cancer, and discusses possible mechanisms of action. Expand

TLDR
Data suggest that anthocyanins and non-anthocyanin phenolics in ACEs act synergistically or additively in producing anticancer effects, and provides essential information for the development of fruit-derived ACEs as potential Botanical Drug Products. Expand
Free radical scavenging activity of an aqueous extract of potato peel
Abstract The antioxidant potency of freeze-dried aqueous extract of potato peel was investigated employing various established in vitro systems, such as lipid peroxidation in rat liver homogenate, 1,Expand
Anthocyanin-rich purple potato flake extract has antioxidant capacity and improves antioxidant potential in rats
TLDR
The present results suggest that purple potato flakes have antioxidant functions with regard to radical scavenging activity and inhibition of linoleic acid oxidation, and that they improve the antioxidant potentials in rats by enhancing hepatic Mn-SOD, Cu/Zn-S OD and GSH-Px mRNA expression. Expand
