The effects of the marine fatty acid 20:4n-3, an isomer of arachidonic acid (20:4n-6), have been compared to that of 20:5n-3 on 20:4n-6 oxygenation in human platelets and endothelial cells. In platelets, 20:4n-3 added along with 20:4n-6 was as potent as 20:5n-3 in inhibiting prostaglandin H synthase (PGH synthase) activity.
