Summary One of the newest members of the family of lignans isolated from Larrea divaricata was shown to be inhibitory towards the beef heart mitochondrial succinoxidase and NADH-oxidase enzyme systems. The I 50 value for 2,3-dimethyl-1-(3′,4′-dihydroxyphenyl)-4-(3″-methoxy-4″-hydroxyphenyl) butane towards the beef heart mitochondrial succinoxidase enzyme system was found to be 41 nmoles/mg. mitochondrial protein.
