Lymphatic spread is an important clinical determinant in the prognosis of many human cancers. The lymphangiogenic factor vascular endothelial growth factor-D (VEGF-D) is implicated in the promotion of lymphatic metastasis through the development of lymphatic vessels in some human cancers.
