TGF-β is a multifunctional cytokine that regulates cell proliferation, differentiation, apoptosis and extracellular matrix production. Deregulation of TGF-β production or signaling has been associated with a variety of pathological processes such as cancer, metastasis, angiogenesis and fibrosis.
