BACKGROUND Previously we reported that decreased postischemic functional recovery was associated with increased DNA fragmentation in the aged myocardium. Magnesium-supplemented potassium (K/Mg) cardioplegia ameliorated DNA fragmentation and enhanced post-ischemic functional recovery.
