A membrane-associated form of phosphate-dependent glutaminase was derived from sonicated mitochondria and purified essentially free of gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase activity. Increasing concentrations of phosphate cause a sigmoidal activation of the membrane-bound glutaminase.
