In this paper, a system for the extraction of the tablature of guitar musical pieces using only the audio waveform is presented. The analysis of the inharmonicity relations between the fundamentals and the partials of the notes played is the main process that allows to estimate both the notes played and the string/fret combination that was used to produce that sound. A procedure to analyze chords will also be described. This procedure will also make use of the inharmonicity analysis to find the…
Audio-based guitar tablature transcription using multipitch analysis and playability constraints
TLDR
This paper proposes a method of guitar tablature transcription from audio signals that enumerate playable fingering configurations, and uses them to suppress any undesirable combination of pitches.
Automatic transcription of guitar tablature from audio signals in accordance with player's proficiency
TLDR
Experiments conducted using synthesized guitar audio signals to evaluate the transcribed tablatures in terms of the multipitch estimation accuracy and fingering easiness demonstrated that the system can simplify the fingering with higher precision of multipITCH estimation results than the conventional method.
INHARMONICITY OF THE COPY OF ANTONIUS STRADIVARIUS VIOLIN
Abstract: This paper presents the algorithm for estimation of inharmonicity of the string musical instruments. The second part of this paper presents the results of the application of this algorithm
Automatic Classification of Guitar Playing Modes
TLDR
This paper presents an accurate and robust playing mode classifier for guitar audio signals that distinguishes between three modes routinely used in jazz improvisation: bass, solo melodic improvisation, and chords.

TLDR
The proposed system for automatic transcription of solo bass guitar recordings with an additional estimation of playing techniques and fretboard positions outperforms three existing transcription algorithms for bass transcription in polyphonic music as well as a melody transcription algorithm for monophonic music.
An Expert System for Guitar Sheet Music to Guitar Tablature
This book applies analysis, design and implementation of the Optical Music Recognition (OMR) to an expert system for transforming guitar sheet music to guitar tablature. The first part includes image
Automatic Guitar String Detection by String-Inverse Frequency Estimation
In this work, we present a novel approach to approximating the fretboard position, i. e., the string and fret combination of guitar and bass recordings, using a feature we call String-Inverse
Automatic String Detection for Bass Guitar and Electric Guitar
TLDR
A machine learning-based approach to automatically estimate the fretboard position string number and fret number from recordings of the bass guitar and the electric guitar and investigates how the separation of training and test data in terms of instrument, playing-style, and pick-up setting affects the algorithm's performance.
Automatic Tablature Transcription of Electric Guitar Recordings by Estimation of Score- and Instrument-Related Parameters
TLDR
A novel algorithm for automatic analysis, transcription, and parameter extraction from isolated polyphonic guitar recordings, which achieved very high accuracy values for onset and offset detection as well as multipitch estimation.
Real-time guitar string detection for music education software
TLDR
A novel approach to real-time detection of the string number and fretboard position from polyphonic guitar recordings is presented to assess, if a music student is correctly performing guitar exercises presented via music education software or a remote guitar teacher.

Feature-based extraction of plucking and expression styles of the electric bass guitar
TLDR
The usage of domain-specific features in a combination of feature selection and feature space transformation techniques improved the classification accuracy by over 27% points in comparison to a state-of-the-art baseline system.
Automated classification of piano-guitar notes
TLDR
A new decisively important factor in both the perceptual and the automated piano-guitar identification process is introduced, determined by the nontonal spectral content of a note, while it is, in practice, totally independent of the note spectrum tonal part.

TLDR
In this method, a guitar tab parser interprets the score from HTML or ASCII text tabs which is then synthesised with guitar-like parameters, and real-time audio to audio synchronisation methods are used to accurately track the musicians position within the tab.
Visual Methods for the Retrieval of Guitarist Fingering
TLDR
This article presents a method to visually detect and recognize fingering gestures of the left hand of a guitarist, developed following preliminary manual and automated analysis of video recordings.
Path Difference Learning for Guitar Fingering Problem
TLDR
This paper uses dynamic programming (DP) to model the decision process of a guitarist choosing the optimal fingering sequence, and developed an original method named "path difference learning” employing a gradient descent search on the coefficients of the cost function.
Automatic hexaphonic guitar transcription using non-negative constraints
Automatic music transcription is a widely studied problem, Typically, recordings that are used for transcription are taken from standard instruments, in the case of electric stringed instruments-such
Is Inharmonicity Perceivable in the Acoustic Guitar
TLDR
The results of the listening tests show that the inharmonicity is close to the JND threshold for the four lowest strings while for the two highest strings it is not perceivable, which implies also that for highest quality sound synthesis of the guitar the inhARMonicity must be taken into account, while for an average listener it is questionable if it makes any difference.
A multimodal approach to music transcription
TLDR
A system which uses the visual modality to support traditional audio transcription techniques and can easily disambiguate 89% of notes in a deterministic way is presented.
Perception and Adjustment of Pitch in Inharmonic String Instrument Tones
The effect of inharmonicity on pitch was measured by listening tests at five fundamental frequencies. Inharmonicity was defined in a way typical of string instruments, such as the piano, where all
Guitar Fingering for Music Performance
TLDR
The implemented fingering model, which accounts for the bio-mechanical constraints of the performer’s hand, is interfaced with a physical model of the classical guitar, which exploits the fingering to compute some sound synthesis parameters.
