Abstract The reaction of hydrogen atoms with SCl 2 , S 2 Cl 2 , SOCL 2 and So 2 Cl 2 gives infrared chemiluminescence from HCl in high vibrational levels. The degree of relaxation from the initial distribution was estimated by comparison to the emission from the reaction of H + Cl 2 . The vibrational level populations of HCl decreased in the series from SCl 2 to SO 2 Cl 2 .
