Medium- and high-resolution spectroscopy of U Equulei from 1 to 4 μm during 1997-2003 has revealed information about its unusual circumstellar envelope, observed previously at optical and radio wavelengths. Strong absorption bands of H2O and of CO dominate the 1-4 μm spectrum. The gas has a mean temperature of 600 K, and 12C/13C ≤ 10. The CO 2-0 line profiles and velocities imply no net ejection or infall, and indicate either rapid radial gas motions being seen along a narrow continuum beam or… Expand

A Massive Bipolar Outflow and a Dusty Torus with Large Grains in the Preplanetary Nebula IRAS 22036+5306
We report high angular resolution (~1") CO J = 3-2 interferometric mapping using the Submillimeter Array (SMA) of IRAS 22036+5306 (I22036), a bipolar preplanetary nebula (PPN) with knotty jetsExpand
Hubble Space Telescope Snapshot Survey of Post-AGB Objects
The results of a Hubble Space Telescope (HST) snapshot survey of post-AGB objects are shown. The aim of the survey is to complement existing HST images of protoplanetary nebulae and to connectExpand
Pure rotational spectra of TiO and TiO2 in VY Canis Majoris
We report the first detection of pure rotational transitions of TiO and TiO2 at (sub-)millimeter wavelengths towards the red supergiant VY CMa. A rotational temperature, Trot, of about 250 K wasExpand
The First MOTESS-GNAT Variable-Star Survey
We present the results of the first MOTESS-GNAT variable-star survey, a deep, wide-field variability survey conducted over 2 yr with a total sky coverage of 300 deg2. In this survey, we identifiedExpand

Circumstellar acetylene in the infrared spectrum of IRC +10° 216
A THICK, expanding envelope of dust and gas surrounds the unusual object IRC +10° 216. Microwave studies have identified numerous molecular constituents of the envelope1, and the thermal infraredExpand
Hot and cold gas toward young stellar objects
High-resolution M band spectra are presented for the seven embedded IR sources W3 IRS 5, S140 IRS1, NGC 7538 IRS 1, NGC 7538 IRS 9, GL 2136, LkH-alpha 101, and MWC 349A, and the data are combinedExpand
Dust emission from IRC+ 10216
Infrared emission from the dust shell around IRC+ 10216 is analysed in detail, em ploying a self-consistent model for radiatively driven winds around late-type stars that couples the equations ofExpand
The accretion of brown dwarfs and planets by giant stars — II. Solar-mass stars on the red giant branch
This paper extends our previous study of planet/brown dwarf accretion by giant stars to solar-mass stars located on the red giant branch. The model assumes that the planet is dissipated at the bottomExpand
Detection of absorption by H2 in molecular clouds: A direct measurement of the H2:CO ratio
Vibrational absorption by H2 and CO has been searched for toward infrared sources embedded in molecular clouds. H2 was detected toward NGC 2024 IRS 2 and possibly toward NGC 2264 (GL 989). CO wasExpand
A library of 0.5 to 2.5 m spectra of luminous cool stars
We present a library of 0:5 2:5 m digital spectra of cool, mostly variable, giant and supergiant stars which should be useful for spectral synthesis applications, as well as for comparison withExpand

The HITRAN molecular spectroscopic database: edition of 2000 including updates through 2001
The HITRAN compilation consists of several components useful for radiative transfer calculation codes: high-resolution spectroscopic parameters of molecules in the gas phase, absorption cross-sections for molecules with very dense spectral features, aerosol refractive indices, ultraviolet line-by-line parameters and absorptionCross-sections, and associated database management software. Integration and testing of the UKIRT imaging spectrometer (UIST)
We present results on the integration and testing of an imaging spectrometer for the 1-5micrometers wavelength band. UIST offers high angular resolution imaging and spectroscopy and has been designedExpand
On the Carbon-Star Status of Five Stars in a New Carbon Star Catalog
We find that five sources listed in the new carbon star catalog are not really carbon-rich objects but oxygen-rich stars, because they all have the prominent 10mum silicate features in absorption andExpand
