To analyze the nuances of the root concept of neutral in social networks, we focus on several related interpretations and suggest corresponding mathematical models for each of them from the family of information-sharing multi-agents network games known as Voter models and the Naming Games (NG). We solve the case of the strong neutrals known as the middle-roaders for global quantities such as expected times to consensus and local times. By using generating functions and treating the two extreme…

Symmetry, Entropy, Diversity and (Why Not?) Quantum Statistics in Society

We describe society as an out-of-equilibrium probabilistic system: in it, N individuals occupy W resource states and produce entropy S over definite time periods. The resulting thermodynamics are

Social Influencing and Associated Random Walk Models: Asymptotic Consensus Times on the Complete Graph

We investigate consensus formation and the asymptotic consensus times in stylized individual- or agent-based models, in which global agreement is achieved through pairwise negotiations with or

Ordering dynamics of the multi-state voter model

This work derives mean-field analytical expressions for the exit probability, the consensus time, and the number of different states as a function of time for the case of an arbitrary number of states in the thermodynamic limit of the voter model.

It is shown that slightly modifying the NG rules in terms of which agent performs the update in given circumstances can either alter dramatically the overall dynamics or leave it qualitatively unchanged.

Sharp transition towards shared vocabularies in multi-agent systems

A microscopic model of communicating autonomous agents performing language games without any central control is introduced and it is shown that the system undergoes a disorder/order transition, going through a sharp symmetry breaking process to reach a shared set of conventions.

Social consensus through the influence of committed minorities

We show how the prevailing majority opinion in a population can be rapidly reversed by a small fraction p of randomly distributed committed agents who consistently proselytize the opposing opinion

In-depth analysis of the Naming Game dynamics: the homogeneous mixing case

The Naming Game is investigated further, a model able to account for the emergence of a shared vocabulary of form-meaning associations through social/cultural learning that can be analyzed in great detail using numerical simulations and analytical arguments.
