Growth and ethanol production byPichia stipitis in media containing different nitrogen sources were compared. Ammonium sulphate (plus vitamins and trace elements) increased ethanol productivity 57% and ethanol-biomass yield 113%, compared to yeast extract. Consumption of ammoniu, amino-acids and total nitrogen was determined.
