Measurements were made of cytochrome c oxidase activity and the GDP-binding capacity of mitochondria in brown adipose tissue of genetically obese mice and wild-type siblings, to estimate the thermogenic capacity of the tissue. The binding capacity was decreased in ad libitum fed obese animals compared with wild-type animals.
