OBJECTIVE
To examine the effect of Capsicum spp extract (CEX) and capsaicin (CAP) on endothelial nitric oxide release and protection against lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced cellular apoptosis.
MATERIAL AND METHOD
Human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVEC) were isolated from newborn cords. Evaluation of cytotoxicity was performed by MTT assay. Endothelial nitric oxide (NO) production was evaluated by Griess reaction. Alteration in eNOS expression was detected by westernblot analysis. To…

- BiologyInternational Journal of Obesity

Although capsaicin intake appears to be a safe practice, further studies will be needed to ascertain the safety of regular long-term consumption, observations reinforce the idea that consumption of Capsaicinoids and capsinoids may be helpful to facilitate obesity management.
Capsaicinoids supplementation decreases percent body fat and fat mass: adjustment using covariates in a post hoc analysis

Results suggest potential benefits of Capsaicinoids (CAPs) on body fat and fat mass in post hoc analysis and suggest further studies are required to explore pharmacological, physiological, and metabolic benefits of both chronic and acute CAPs consumption.
Capsicum cultivated under adverse conditions in Southern Japan produces higher concentrations of antioxidants and pungent components
- BiologybioRxiv
- 2019
It is concluded that Capsicum cultivated in harsh environments produced beneficial effects such as higher levels of antioxidants and capsaicinoids in seeds and placenta; thus, they show merit as a viable commercial crop in Japan.

Capsaicin effectively inhibits the detrimental effects of HIV protease inhibitor ritonavir on vasomotor functions of porcine pulmonary arteries and may suggest that capsaicin could have clinical applications to prevent vascular and pulmonary complications of HAART drugs in HIV patients.

The capsaicin-induced relaxations of the human and porcine distal coronary arteries are not mediated by CGRP, NK1, NO, vanilloid receptors, voltage-sensitive calcium channels, K+ channels or cAMP-mediated mechanisms, and are likely to be attributed to a non-specific, C GRP-independent mechanism.
