}A feedlot growth-performance trial and a metabolism trial were conducted to evaluate a dose response to ardacin (a glycopeptide antibiotic). Treatments consisted of an 88% concentrate finishing diet supplemented to contain (DM basis) 0, 8.25, 16.5., or 33 mg ardacin/kg. The growth-performance trial (129 d) involved 120 heifers and 120 steers in a randomized complete block design. There were no interactions (P less than .10) between sex and response to ardacin. Average daily gain increased (P…

Effects of ardacin supplementation on rumen fermentation and protein degradability in steers
- Biology
- 1996
It is concluded that ardacin altered rumen fermentation in a dose-dependant manner in a direction suggestive of improved growth and/or feed conversion efficiency and may increase the quantity of dietary protein supplied to the small intestine.

Ardacin for steers grazing endophyte-free fescue pasture: effects on live weight gain, forage intake, nitrogen and fiber digestion, ruminal fluid kinetics, ruminal fermentation, and serum hormones and metabolites.
- Biology, MedicineJournal of animal science

Growth and digestion studies were conducted to evaluate the use of ardacin as a feedgrade antibiotic for enhancing digestive function and growth in grazing steers and the effects of the same supplements used in Exp. 1 on ruminal fermentation and digestion.
Avoparcin and monensin effects on the digestion of nutrients in dairy cows fed a mixed diet

An in vivo study was carried out to evaluate the effect of avoparcin on fiber, starch and nitrogen (N) digestion compared with monensin. Three dairy lactating cows with ruminal, duodenal and ileal…
Effect of Ionophore Enriched Cold Processed Mineral Block Supplemented with Urea Molasses on Rumen Fermentation and Microbial Growth in Crossbred Cattle
- Biology
- 2003
Feeding of UMMB and monensin in diet affected the rumen fermentation pattern towards propionate production, slower release of ammonia and reduction in methanogenic bacteria in the rumens, resulting in lower A:P ratio.
